What is a garden area?

A garden area is a way within your journal to identify where your plants are located and where your gardening activities are occurring. A user can create multiple garden areas or simply just have one garden area. Some members like to create multiple garden areas so they can better organize their journal. Examples of this could be creating multiple garden areas such as "Front Yard", "Mailbox Flower Bed" and "Back Yard". How many you create and what you call them is up to you.

How do I create a garden area?

Creating a garden area is easy. First you must have an account and be logged in. After logging in, click the "My Journal" menu item at the top of your screen. Once you are brought to the My Journal page, click the button on the right hand side that says "Create New Garden Area". You will then be presented with a popup as shown below. Fill in the requested information, press the "Save Garden Area" button and your new garden area will be created and ready for use.

How do I add a plant to my garden area in my journal?

Add Plant 1 One of the most common activities you will record in your journal is adding a plant to your garden. In order to do this you will need to open up your journal for a particular day. The most common way to do this is to select a day from the calendar on your "My Journal" page. Once you have opened up your journal for a specific day, move your mouse over the "Garden Activity" item on the left hand side of the screen. A popup menu of options will show from which you can select the "Add a New Plant" option as shown in the image to the right.

Upon choosing this option you will be presented with a popup (shown below) where you can enter the details about the plant you are adding. These details include the Garden Area where you are doing the planting, the name of the plant, whether you are planting an existing plant or from seed, how long it took you to perform the planting, the number of plants or seeds, any personal notes you wish to record, and the name of the supplier from which you purchased the plant. Upon entering all of this requested information and pressing the "Save Planting" button, your new plant will show up in your journal and be available for recording other journal activities (pruning, mulching, water, observations, etc.)

How do I upload pictures into my log?

One of the most powerful features of our site is the member's ability to upload pictures as part of their journal. You can upload pictures for any activity (planting, observation, pruning, etc.) that you have logged in your journal. Once you have created an entry for an activity in the journal, you will see a "Pictures" column in the grid that shows all your logged activities. Within this column you will see a hyperlink that says "Add" as shown below.

If you click the "Add" hyperlink you will be presented with a popup (shown below) that asks you to choose a file on your computer that you wish to upload. Once you've uploaded your picture, it will show up in your journal where other members can view it and comment on it.

How do I record the weather for a particular day in my journal?

Add Weather MenuYou can record a set of weather observations in your journal for each day. These observations include an overall weather type (sunny, rainy, cloudy, partly cloudy, etc.), the high and low temperatures and personalized notes about the weather for the specific day.

To initially enter or edit existing weather observations, choose the Daily Weather option from the menu on the left hand side of the screen as shown in the image to the right.

Upon selecting the "Daily Weather" menu, you will be presented with a popup as shown below where you can enter the details of your weather observation.

After you have added a weather observation to a specific day in your journal, you will see the weather information displayed as part of the header within your journal as shown below.
